How to Create Extra Eyelets in our Tarps

How to Create Extra Eyelets in our Tarps

Eyelets, also known as grommets, are small metal or plastic rings that are inserted into a tarpaulin to provide a point of attachment for ropes or other tie-downs. They are typically placed along the edges of the tarp and are used to secure the tarp in place over a structure or object. Eyelets can also be used to create tie-down points for cargo or other items being transported on the tarp. They help to prevent tearing or damage to the tarp by distributing the stress of the tie-downs evenly across the material.

How to Create Extra Eyelets in our Tarps

If you need to create extra eyelets in your tarps, there are a few steps you can take:

Step 1: Measure the location where you want to add the eyelet

Use a ruler or measuring tape to determine the exact location and mark it with a pen or marker.

Step 2: Punch a hole in the tarp

Use a grommet press or a hole punch to create a hole in the tarp at the marked location. If you don’t have a grommet press or hole punch, you can use a drill with a hole saw attachment or a sharp knife to make a hole.

Step 3: Install the eyelet

Take an eyelet and place it over the hole, making sure that the flange (the flat part of the eyelet) is on the inside of the tarp. If you have a grommet press, use it to press the eyelet into place. If not, use a hammer to tap the eyelet into place.

Step 4: Repeat the process

Repeat the process for each additional eyelet you need to add to the tarp.

It’s important to note that, if you’re using a knife or a drill to make the hole, be extra careful not to cut or drill too deep, otherwise it might cause a tear on the tarp. Also, it’s always a good idea to test the eyelets before using the tarp to ensure they are secure and can support the weight of the load they will be holding.
